There is a cause for everything. You get a check in the mail because you picked up the mail from your post box. The mail was delivered because the mail man delivered it. The mailman delivered it, because the sender sent it…

Pick anything and you can follow it back to its cause and then follow that back to the cause before it, in an uninterrupted chain. If you follow the chain long enough, you will eventually arrive at the ultimate original cause of a sudden universal Big Bang.

This is the chain of action / reaction causality. It is a model of causality that assumes that all cause is followed by effect and all effect becomes the next cause.

Each cause was the effect of some previous cause. If there was ever a cause that was not also an effect it was in that Big Bang at the birth of the Universe.

A major assumption of this model of causality is that there is no causal event that is pure, no cause that was not the result of a previous cause. It assumes that all the variables were set in the very beginning and the universe is unwinding in an ordered lock step of action / reaction toward it’s eventual demise in the final heat death o f the Universe. There is no entry point for new causal events that are outside of this chain. There is no way to alter the flow of action and reaction that is driving the universe to its eventual end.

This action / reaction model of causality is considered valid by many, but it’s only true validity is in a dead universe.

Our universe is alive

Everything in this universe hums with consciousness. This is a universe that is living and aware. There is nothing dead about this universe.

This is a self evident fact when identity is switched away from a limited body based ego and into expansive awareness. From this state of conscious awareness, the universe is humming with consciousness - your consciousness . Your consciousness is your entire experience. Your experience is the living universe. You are the living universe.

In a conscious, living universe, causality is different. Much different.

In a conscious universe true causality flows out of consciousness. The flow is constant and without cause, which means that there is no cause for consciousness. It just is.

From this vantage, consciousness is the cause of everything. There was no single point of cause at the beginning, instead there is an ever expanding and flowing wellspring of new causality.

The waterfall of causation

In a dead universe, causality follows this pattern:

First cause -> effect (becomes the next cause) -> effect (becomes the next cause) ….

That is, there is an initial cause from which all further cause and effects follow. Each effect becomes a cause for further effects… The cycle continues uninterrupted (until it ends once and for all). This is the pattern of action and reaction.

In a living universe, causality follows a different pattern:

Consciousness (cause) -> thoughts and emotions (effect) -> outside world (effect)

Of course, text is a rather limiting way of explanation, but this pattern begins with consciousness from which thoughts and emotions form and all the action / reaction in the outside world follows. That is, consciousness is the only cause: thoughts and emotions and the outside world are all after effects - they are not a cause it all, they are only perceived to be.

What this ultimately means is that when you interact with the world, you are interacting with your own consciousness. Your creation.

Take a moment to evaluate your environment. What do you see? Inspect your surroundings for a moment. How do you feel? What thoughts populate your mind? Consider this is a mirror of yourself.

Creating

We are in a constant state of creation. Consciousness is the root cause and everything else is an effect. Consciousness begins the cycle of cause and effect. Consciousness is never at effect. It is the point of causality.

Artists and architects and entrepreneurs know this. They consciously form what they want to cause and the effect is their mental construction in physical space. Each skyscraper, each prized painting, insightful essay, thriving business was caused by consciousness, not by the action -> reaction of the environment.

Entropy

Many have wondered why in a universe supposedly ruled by action / reaction and thus entropy - where things naturally and inevitably fall apart - why this little planet of ours is such a hot bed of order and growth.

In a dead universe, the cycle of action / reaction left on its own does lead to the inevitable unwinding and disintegration of everything. But in a living universe you find… life, growth, order, and consciousness. From that eye of consciousness flows a profound causality that defeats entropies decay.

You are the initiator of all events. You are the ultimate cause of everything in your experience. Enjoy it.
